Few men have had the impact on Michigan football that legendary Desmond Howard did. Desmond shattered UM scoring records and became the first wide receiver in Big Ten history to lead the conference in scoring. Howard won the Heisman Trophy in 1991, becoming the first – and only – receiver to win the prestigious award with more than 2,000 voting points. Following his playing days in Ann Arbor, Howard played 11 NFL seasons with five different teams. Famous for his acrobatic catches and uncanny success at returning kicks and punts, Howard dazzled the sports world with a 99-yard kick-off return in Super Bowl XXXI, helping the Green Bay Packers defeat the New England Patriots. For his efforts, he was named Super Bowl MVP.
